Pathology Etiology WebChronic sialadenitis can develop secondary to ductal obstruction (e.g., sialolithiasis) or in certain immune-related disorders, such as Sjögren syndrome and sarcoidosis. Bacterial sialadenitis most commonly affects the parotid gland and presents as a painful swelling of the cheek that may be associated with trismus and low-grade fever.
